Modular mooring pontoons from Baars: the solution for calamities on bridges and tunnels!

Since June 9, 2023, the Haringvliet Bridge has been undergoing a much-needed renovation. This bridge is a crucial traffic artery between the provinces of South Holland and North-Brabant. During this work, the bridge is temporarily closed, creating challenges for commuters and travelers who use this route on a daily basis. Fortunately, Baars has provided an innovative solution to make the crossing over the ‘’Hollandsch Diep’’ as smooth as possible.

Gorinchem VI: an important connection across the water

Since the renovation began, the ferry Gorinchem VI has been making as many as four crossings per hour across the Hollandsch Diep. Cyclists, scooter riders and pedestrians can reach the other side in just 10 minutes. What makes this trip even more interesting is that from the ferry, passengers have an excellent view of the progress of the bridge renovation. It offers travelers the opportunity to see this feat of engineering ingenuity up close.

“Every weekday, about 1,500 to 2,000 passengers use the ferry. On weekends there are a little less, but still around 1,000 per day. Generally they find the crossing a great alternative during the bridge closure, nice outside and better than standing in traffic jams,” said a spokesman for the ferry company.

Baars’s mooring and docking facilities: the key to smooth crossings

Behind these seamless crossings and the effortless tracking of the bridge renovation is an impressive feat of cooperation and technical expertise. In cooperation with ‘’Stichting Zuid-Holland Bereikbaar’’, Baars supplied two mooring pontoons and mooring facilities, including coupling pontoons, to safely moor the Gorinchem VI ferry during the renovation of the Haringvliet Bridge. These temporary mooring facilities are accessible from the beach at Numansdorp and provide connections to recreational area de ‘’Banaan’’, Willemstad and back. Look at the movie in the slider above.

Baars provides the complete package, from calculation to delivery, assembly, maintenance and removal of the mooring facility. This total solution is designed to completely relieve customers during such complex projects. With its shipyard in Sliedrecht nearby, Baars is ready to address and solve any issues immediately.
