The port of La Ciotat is the only place in France where yachts of 80 metres in length can be rebuilt and repaired. In 2019, 5 of the 20 largest yachts in the world will therefore dock at the port. But 80 metres is not enough, La Ciotat Shipyards believes. The port should be able to receive up to 105-metre-long yachts. Not luxury yachts – but mega-yachts! Baars was allowed to contribute to the adjustments that were necessary for this in the harbour with a jack-up.
Delivery within three weeks
In order to be able to receive and repair mega yachts, the port wanted to build a no less than 40,000 m2 maritime platform with a lift of more than 4,300 tonnes. A jack-up from Baars was used to install the 86 piles required for this. The compact 12 x 12 metre jack-up consisted of modular pontoons, four of which were spud pontoons with spudlegs of each 18 meters long. We also supplied a power pack, winches and bollards. Within three weeks of the quotation, the jack-up was already ready for use in La Ciotat!
Jack-ups with expert service
At Baars, it is never about simply supplying equipment – we always think along with you. The deck of the compact jack-up for La Ciotat has therefore been designed as efficiently as possible. We provided stability calculations and made calculations for the installation of extra supports on deck. In addition, we arranged special transport to carry the 18-metre long poles, thus saving time during assembly.

A jack-up is a modular system that can be assembled in many configurations and with many different pieces of marine equipment. Which jack-up offers the best solution depends on the location (river, harbour or coastal) and the water depth. Click here to view other projects with our modular jack-ups in our fleet. They are all delivered with modular pontoons from stock, fast transport, all necessary permits and professional assembly and instructions.
