Boyukshor, a lake not far from the Baku Olympic Stadium in Azerbaijan, must be cleaned up before the start of the first European Olympic Games. It means that as much as 2.6 million cubic metres of sludge will be removed from the clayey lakebed before the 2015 summer. Baars will contribute to the project by supplying some of the equipment. At this point in time, our modular dredging pontoon and accessories (a self-propelled multi pontoon, modular hopper with fuel barges and workboat, an excavator with dredging pump, a booster station and a floating pressure pipe) sold to the responsible Azerbaijani ministry, have been operating to everyone’s complete satisfaction for more than 10 weeks. Our pontoon is equipped with an hydraulic excavator with a dredging pump and a slurry blade to remove the concentrated sludge from the lakebed at high speed. As we are working against the clock, we not only trained local dredging companies in using our equipment, but in collaboration with Martens and Van Oord we also provided temporary dredging firms from the Netherlands.
