Baars supplies self-propelled split hopper barge for regional sand and gravel extraction at Valet und Ott

Valet und Ott Kies- und Grindwerke, based in Steinmauern, Germany, has taken a step towards innovation and sustainability with the purchase of a self-propelled splitbarge from Baars. This 160 m³ splitbarge was specially designed to optimise the dredging process and is in line with Valet und Ott’s core values: quality, sustainability and supply reliability.

Regional strength and sustainable extraction

Valet und Ott has played an important role in the regional extraction of gravel, sand and split for many years. They strive to extract, process and deliver their raw materials locally. The company’s sustainable approach is reflected in short delivery routes and constant quality control of their products. The purchase of Baars’ split hopper barge further reinforces this focus. The self-propelled barge ensures that Valet und Ott can carry out their work efficiently even in waters that are difficult to access, contributing to their regional presence and ecological responsibility.

Baars’ self-propelled splitbarge: efficiency in action

The new splitbarge is specifically tailored to Valet und Ott’s scope of work and suitable for dredging in narrow waterways and small lakes. Thanks to its demountable construction, the splitting bucket can be easily transported and quickly deployed at different sites, allowing Valet und Ott to respond flexibly to market demand. This fits perfectly with their need to make raw materials available at short notice and locally. For this project, Baars also fitted the split barge with an engine and wheelhouse, fully tailored to Valet und Ott’s specific requirements and working conditions.

Cooperation and planning: from idea to realisation

The cooperation between Baars and Valet und Ott went smoothly. After initial discussions in March 2023, this project led to the delivery of the split hopper barge in August 2024, after which the Valet und Ott team was able to transport the first loads in September. Michael Timpf, Technical Manager at Valet und Ott, confirms the success of the cooperation: ‘Wir haben mit der Firma Baars einen zuverlässigen und kompetenten Partner gefunden.’
