Innovative mono pontoon gives Canalproject in Amsterdam a flying start

Beens Groep has been inventing technical innovations for years, which is why they have now entered into a partnership with the municipality of Amsterdam. In the coming years they will be working on the renovation of many kilometers of quay walls with objects (such as bridges and other monumental objects). This work in the heart of Amsterdam requires a little extra creativity in its execution, because how does one get all that material and equipment across the water to the Herengracht, among other places? Baars is not only your partner for renting modular pontoons, but also for realizing creative solutions. Together with the Beens Group, a flatbed monopontoon was constructed so that we could get to work on the assignment quickly.

In the centre of Amsterdam there are many canals and the streets are often narrow, large machines such as an Abi rig and a Sennebogen crane can often not easily get through. Thanks to the lowloader mono pontoon, these machines could still easily be transported through the inner city of Amsterdam. The machines can now even pass under the low city bridges to get to work replacing the quay walls.

The possibilities of the flatbed pontoon

The cargo hold of the low loader mono pontoon contains a height-adjustable ramp, which makes it easy to load and unload a crane by driving in and out of it yourself. In addition, the ballast system has provided an even smaller clearance.

Beens Group was commissioned by the City of Amsterdam to renew over 200 kilometres of quay walls. Baars BV contributed to the smooth progress of the work.
A creative eye was needed for this project as the work is much more difficult to carry out on Amsterdam’s narrow canals. Together with Baars BV, a creative solution was created within three months by means of a low-loader monopontoon, which meant that the work could be carried out much more efficiently. The lowloader mono pontoon is equipped with a ballast system that ensures a smaller clearance, so that it can navigate the narrow canals of Amsterdam. “This pontoon is worth its weight in gold”, says Gerben Busweiler, head of equipment at Beens Group.

For the execution of this project, Beens Group chose to work with Baars BV to develop a coupling pontoon that is suitable for the planned activities. In addition to the possibility of developing a special pontoon for your activities, Baars BV can also purchase or hire various modular pontoons and monopontoons. For example, you can rent or buy a coupling pontoon from Baars BV.
