Jack-up platform supports marine construction in the Åland Islands

Through our network in the Scandinavian marine construction sector, we were introduced to the Finnish company Byggab — a collaboration that immediately felt like a natural fit. Byggab was looking for a strong and reliable jack-up platform for a range of on-water operations, including maintenance work on remote island lighthouses and projects in tidal areas. Exactly the kind of challenge Baars thrives on.

Following a visit to our shipyard, the project quickly took shape. While much communication today happens digitally, meeting in person still adds real value. Walking the yard together, reviewing materials, and demonstrating what is technically possible often makes all the difference.

Fully managed delivery and installation

For this project, Baars delivered a complete jack-up platform measuring 18 x 12 metres, equipped with 30-metre spud legs. The platform consists of multiple modular pontoons and was fully configured to meet Byggab’s operational requirements.

In addition, we supplied marine equipment, a toolbox, and a boat landing. The entire scope was delivered, assembled, and commissioned on schedule, in close cooperation with the client.

While this may sound straightforward, working in a location such as the Åland Islands requires additional preparation. Logistics, transport by water, and careful planning around weather conditions all play a key role. It doesn’t have to be complicated — as long as everything is properly aligned.
